Fantasizing about a "better life" while navigating a troubled upper middle-class marriage feels a lot like "rich people drinking wine" problems. Burns' attempt to appeal to older viewers gets somewhat buried beneath a very flawed, 1990s-movie approach to married life. While the story's themes of love, happiness, and purpose are likely to have some redeeming relatability to Millers in Marriage's target audience, the film comes off as slow, predictable, and underwhelming despite the all-star cast. Life's second act would be a lot more believable if it didn't involve a bunch of shallow, rich people dishing out about miserable marriages as they pour glasses of wine. Whining meets wine-ing? No thanks.
