What's the Story?

MURDER COMPANY, which is based on actual events during World War II, follows an unlikely band of U.S. soldiers during the D-Day invasion. The company is ordered to do the impossible: Sneak a French resistance member into a heavily guarded Nazi base to assassinate a military target. But the small group soon learns that their mission may be futile, if not impossibly deadly. Kelsey Grammer and William Moseley star.

Is It Any Good?

Our review:
Parents say ( 1 ):
Kids say ( 1 ):

A war epic isn't epic if you miss the opportunity for a truly visceral reaction. Let's be clear: It's not terrible, but Murder Company is no Saving Private Ryan. This feels like a movie for people who particularly love war films with lots of action, violence, and swearing -- and very little emotional attachment. This grim but predictable action drama lacks the story layering, emotional depth, and character relatability that superior war epics provide -- the kind of movies that make you feel like you're truly there in the trenches with the soldiers. The cast members do the best with what they were given, but director Shane Dax Taylor may have set himself up for impact failure for anyone coming to the movie with Spielberg-sized expectations.

Talk to Your Kids About ...

  • Families can talk about the D-Day invasion and the role it plays in Murder Company. Do you think this mission "based on actual events" is plausible? Why, or why not? Why do filmmakers sometimes embroider/alter the truth?

  • Do you think the violent scenes are too graphic, or is that expected from a war movie? Does exposure to violent media desensitizes kids to violence?

  • Have you seen other movies about World War II? How does this one compare? What do they tend to have in common?
