What's the Story?

In MY NAME IS VENDETTA, Santo (Alessandro Gassman) lives with his wife Ingrid and their feisty teenage daughter Sofia (Ginerva Francesconi). While off-roading with Santo in the countryside, Sofia secretly takes a picture of her dad while he fixes the Jeep. He refuses to have his picture taken, and she soon finds out why. Hours later, hitmen arrive at their house and kill Ingrid and her brother while Sofia narrowly escapes. She flees the scene with Santo, who must now reveal who he was in his past life and why they are being pursued. Now, Sofia is wrapped up in survival, and she must join her father as he tries to get even with the old rivals who have destroyed his family.

This is a violent and fast-paced Italian action movie. My Name Is Vendetta does a nice job of keeping an engaging story moving while also having characters who are developed enough to be worth rooting for. It's basically a revenge story with Mafioso twists and turns, but it doesn't really break out of the established formula of the lead character getting even with his enemies, from weakest to strongest.

While Alessandro Gassman is just fine as the action hero with the dark past, it's Ginerva Francesconi who really shines as the feisty teenage daughter Sofia whose life is turned upside down by her father's past catching up to him. The best thing about this movie, though, is that they keep it moving. The story and the action work well together, and there isn't a wasted scene in the whole movie.
