What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Of an Age is an Australian coming-of-age drama set in 1999 about a young Serbian-born teenager (Elias Anton) who develops a relationship with his dancing partner's older brother (Thom Green). It has strong themes of compassion and empathy, as well as LGBTQ+ and immigrant representation. There's also plenty of mature content, including strong language ("f--k," "s--t," "d--k," gay slurs, and more) and sexual content (partial male nudity, simulated masturbation and oral sex).

What's the Story?
OF AN AGE follows Kol (Elias Anton), an 18-year-old Serbian immigrant to Australia who enters into a love affair with Adam (Thom Green), the older grad student brother of Kol's amateur ballroom dancing partner, Ebony (Hattie Hook). Kol and Adam's relationship changes as both get older and pursue their life paths.
Is It Any Good?
This drama is a sorrowful, emotional story of a young man both coming of age and coming to terms with his queerness. It's a film that feels like it's part of a conversation with other films of love and longing, like Wong Kar-Wai's Happy Together and Barry Jenkins' Moonlight. Many viewers will be able to relate to the pangs of first love, and some will find the film revelatory when it comes to learning more about queer experiences. Its sly commentary on racism and discrimination against immigrants is also poignant and relatable. Overall, Of an Age is a film that will stick with you long after the credits roll.
