In a change of pace for British tough guy Adkins, this action-comedy casts him as overly trusting Devon, the fall guy for an armed robbery who gets out of prison and wants his money. Reckless' largely unfunny and overly sweary script does no one any favors, with a lot of the jokes playing like something from a dated 1990s "geezer" flick, where the homophobia is dressed as irony but functions as the real thing. Thankfully, Adkins manages to charge Devon with enough nervous energy to sell his fight scenes as something a bit different. It's unlikely he'll be asked to utilize a stuffed toy to neutralize a combatant when he inevitably returns to his more familiar style of beat 'em ups. He also knows when to dial things down, as in an unexpectedly emotional turn when Devon briefly reunites with the girlfriend he waited for while doing time. The rest is predictably generic. There's the now-familiar, John Wick-inspired pink and purple lighting schemes and Vinnie Jones appearing as an unlikely member of the House of Lords, albeit one who has a lucrative sideline in a criminal enterprise. But the wacky cast of cameos never meshes with a plot that struggles to explain why gangland gods wouldn't just pay off Devon for keeping his mouth shut while in jail for them.
