Ryan's World the Movie: Titan Universe Adventure
What's the Story?
In RYAN'S WORLD THE MOVIE: TITAN UNIVERSE ADVENTURE, YouTube sensation Ryan Kaji and his best friend, Aiden (Evangeline Lomelino), find a special comic book in a stash of rare editions. Later, when Ryan's younger twin sisters, Emma and Kate, are playing in his room without his permission, they find the comic and end up getting sucked into its world, which is animated. Ryan and Aiden return and find the comic, and they can see the girls drawn into it. Ryan figures out how to get into it as well, and he embarks on a journey to work with his twins and other characters to combat a Dark Titan and other evil forces.
Is It Any Good?
This is ultimately an underwhelming influencer movie that is aimed at the YouTuber's huge base of toy-loving fans but has little to offer anyone else. The uninitiated may not understand why Ryan is starring in his own movie, since he and his family don't seem like actors. They aren't—but he's one of YouTube's highest-paid content creators and influencers because of his highly sponsored toy-unboxing channel. And the movie definitely capitalizes on Ryan's popular merchandise, like his special mystery toy eggs and other accessories that can be found in his room or the Red Titan universe.
Co-star Lomelino, unlike Kaji, does have the comic timing of a young actor, and she's the best part of director Albie Hecht's film. Alas, the cartoon segments feature amateurish, computer-generated animation that's filled with dots and backgrounds lacking the details featured in higher-budget movies. For fans of Ryan's YouTube channel, it may be enough to see Ryan and his family in anything, but there's not enough here to grab anyone who isn't already a subscriber.
