What's the Story?
Inspired by a real-life case, SECTOR 36 tells the story of the ruthless Prem Singh (Vikrant Massey), who kidnaps, tortures, and murders children living in an impoverished area. He's being pursued by Ram Charan Pandey (Deepak Dobriyal), a corrupt detective who reluctantly takes on the case only to protect one of his loved ones.
Is It Any Good?
In his directorial debut, Aditya Nimbalkar commits the rookie mistake of stuffing his film with too many intentions that confuse rather than enlighten viewers. The story on which Sector 36 is based had enough plot twists and material to be told in a straightforward manner, as it's a tale of good vs. evil. A serial killer is being pursued by a detective trying to stop him from kidnapping, torturing, and murdering children.
Instead, Nimbalkar and screenwriter Bodhayan Roychaudhury insert commentary to highlight social inequity in such a clumsy way that they end up seemingly justifying the killer. In addition to this, there are unnecessary subplots and grandiose speeches that add to the film's oddly exploitative tone, in which sensationalist details overcome the enormous human tragedy at the core of the case.
Talk to Your Kids About ...

What do you think about the speech Prem Singh gives to justify his actions? Does it change the way you see his character?
How does Sector 36 compare to other films based on real-life stories?
