What's the Story?

In SECURITY, Eddie Deacon (Antonio Banderas) is a down-on-his-luck veteran who, desperate for a job, ends up at a rundown shopping mall for a security guard position. On his first night on the job, he opens the doors to a panicked 11-year-old girl (Katherine de la Rocha) who narrowly escaped the hijacking of a U.S. Marshal motorcade that was transporting her to testify as a trial witness. In hot pursuit are Charlie (Ben Kingsley) and his gang of contract killers, who will stop at nothing to eliminate her. Banderas and a motley crew of mall security guards (played by Liam McIntyre, Gabriella Wright, Chad Lindberg, and Jiro Wang) must protect the girl at all costs.

Is It Any Good?

Our review:
Parents say : Not yet rated

This formulaic action film doesn't use Banderas and Kingsley's talents to their fullest potential. Ultimately, Security is like a low-budget Die Hard meets Paul Blart: Mall Cop, with some hokey Home Alone thrown in. Still, despite the B-rated script, the stars are entertaining enough to keep viewers' attention through a wild series of action-packed stunts and semi-believable antics as the "good guys" and "bad guys" chase each other through a shopping mall. Be sure to bring your own taser.

Talk to Your Kids About ...

  • Families can talk about the violence in Security. Do you think that Eddie and his crew's use of violence was necessary given the situation? Why, or why not? What alternative measures might they have used to protect the witness?

  • What message does Security have (if any)? Does it resonate amid all of the movie's extreme violence and action?

  • What role does family play in this film? Does Eddie embody the character of a protective father figure?
