What's the Story?
In SHAUN THE SHEEP: THE BEAST OF MOSSY BOTTOM, after the Farmer (John Sparkes) accidentally destroys the sheep's pumpkin patch, Shaun (Justin Fletcher) tries to fix it with a science experiment. But the experiment goes wrong, setting off a chain of events that leads to the appearance of a mysterious hairy creature.
Is It Any Good?
For families of all ages who are looking for a fun, atmospheric Halloween treat, this stop-motion animation ticks all the boxes. Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom packs its modest 80-minute runtime full of gags, gentle scares, and enough heart to warm even the most cynical of viewers. Aardman Animations (Wallace & Gromit, Chicken Run) is the master at capturing that sweet spot that keeps every generation entertained at once. Whether it's the slapstick or the knowing nods to films as far flung as Psycho and Back to the Future, this movie has the potential to become a staple in family Halloween viewing—and there are so many references that repeat viewing is required to catch them all. This is the third feature-length film of the franchise, following its short-form TV incarnation. But new viewers can jump straight in here and then revisit the earlier versions. The story rolls along so briskly that you completely forget you're watching figurines of clay and plastic, moved by hand, frame by frame. In a world full of AI, it's a technical wonder that is as jaw-dropping as it is refreshing.
