What's the Story?

In SIXTY MINUTES, Octavio (Emilio Sakraya) must escape a horde of gangsters who want him to suffer for not throwing an MMA fight. Octavio just wants to get to his daughter's birthday, but he only has 60 minutes to get there. With enemies everywhere chasing him, will he make it in time?

For newcomers to the genre, there are some tight and fast-paced martial arts on display, some cool moves and choreography, and some nice action set pieces. For veterans of the genre, however, nothing in Sixty Minutes will surprise or greatly impress, even if everything is executed well. But this is no Jackie Chan, John Wick, or John Woo film, it is merely a serviceable set of fight scenes linked up in various unrealistic ways. With a bit of a Run Lola Run vibe, main character Octavio must get somewhere in 60 minutes, and the countdown ticks on as the threats become more violent and serious. Thankfully, given this simple premise, the pacing is fast and Octavio's goal is clear.

After a while, though, it may start to feel like too many improbabilities too nicely line up (right after Octavio gets off the U-Bahn train, some people chasing him just happen to see him, thus continuing the chase), and a few too many times, Octavio also seems to take his sweet time (after a fight or sequence, he just starts walking away) instead of running full speed, always. But there are a few twists and turns along the way, and the performances are dedicated enough, despite them being a one-note affair (lots of mean-mug stares and scowls).
