Sniper: The Last Stand
What's the Story?
SNIPER: THE LAST STAND pits black ops sharpshooter Brandon Beckett (Chad Michael Collins) and his team against a deadly militia.
Is It Any Good?
The latest Sniper movie is a familiar mix of full-throttle fight scenes and righteous warriors in danger. Collins brings the brawn and most of the big speeches in Sniper: The Last Stand as he reprises his role of Beckett, an elite killer with a strict moral code. As you might expect, the bad guys mostly exist as human targets for the movie's lengthy set pieces. This time out, Costa Verde might need saving from a ruthless local militia with a deadly weapon. But what audiences are really tuning in for are explosive battles and novelty deaths. Director Danishka Esterhazy duly obliges and mixes things up with camerawork and lighting that transports us into the thick of the action, utilizing literal smokescreens to make the most of limited staging and sets. Where the movie falls short is in its blunt, forced dialogue and a lack of screen presence among too many of the cast. Sniper: The Last Stand might accomplish its mission as an unpretentious action thriller, but don't expect many memorable moments.
