What's the Story?

TEDDY'S CHRISTMAS follows a toy bear named Teddy (voiced by John F. Brungot in the original Norwegian and Zachary Levi for the English dub) who hopes to be won by a rich man who can take him on adventures. But when a little girl named Mariann (Marte Klerck-Nilssen) wants to have him, their worlds collide -- and ultimately they both learn about the true meaning of Christmas.

Is It Any Good?

Our review:

This is a harmless family film about a cute talking teddy bear finding his forever home. That said, it feels a bit oddly paced and a touch boring, even at a modest 80-minute runtime (which doesn't bode all that well for holding kids' attention). But if you're a fan of Norwegian author Alf Prøysen (who wrote the story the movie is based on) and his characters, then you might get something out of Teddy's Christmas beyond just the surface watch.

Talk to Your Kids About ...

  • Families can talk about Norwegian culture. What holiday traditions are featured in Teddy's Christmas? How do they compare to your own?

  • Why does Mariann want Teddy? What does she do to try to get Teddy for herself? What lesson does she learn when she tries to get Teddy?

  • How do characters demonstrate courage? Why is that an important character strength?
