Thabo and the Rhino Case
What's the Story?
THABO AND THE RHINO CASE is set in the savanna of Eswatini in Southern Africa, where wild animals roam free and are protected. One day, 11-year old Thabo (Litlhohonolofatso Litlhakayane) stumbles upon a mysterious rhino poaching death. When his uncle is falsely accused, Thabo jumps into action to uncover the real killer and find justice for his family and the baby rhino that was abruptly orphaned by the killing. With the help of his new friend Emma (Ava Skuratowski) and a group of kids from his village, Thabo uses his detective skills to solve the mystery, capture the villains, and care for the baby rhino.
Is It Any Good?
This timely and engaging adventure mystery about animal conservation also explores even bigger issues for kids. Thabo and the Rhino Case goes beyond the savanna, highlighting issues around animal poaching and protecting endangered species while also tackling topics like prejudice, racism, poverty, and cultural differences in a kind, kid-friendly way. This family-focused film is a compelling story for animal lovers who enjoy majestic African animals but may be up for something besides an animal documentary. While there are some disturbing rhino death scenes, the message about protecting these beautiful endangered animals from the dangers of poaching resonates clearly.
