Rushed out quickly after the events, this British crime thriller mixes real details with made-up elements. With a quirky, cod-philosophical voice-over by the unnamed main character (Matthew Goode), The Hatton Garden Job is in the Guy Ritchie-style of gangster movies -- even the soundtrack reminds you of the likes of Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. To glorify its characters, the film tries to set up a noble Robin Hood reason for the robbery. This lets it have cute, cuddly, cheeky criminals and ignore reality. It reveals its hand when the older characters start to moan about young people and the state of the world, showing its intended audience. This aside, its biggest crime is just being deathly dull. There's no tension or excitement in a single scene and the big names go through the motions while lesser-known actors give poor performances. The story captivated the U.K. but the movie can't do the same. Try 2019's King of Thieves for a better regarded telling.
