Uncompromising and divisive by design, this fantasy drama's off-kilter world is an acquired taste that's likely to turn off as many people as it pleases. Fans of shows like Twin Peaks will find plenty to enjoy in The Show's unpredictable, interesting, and sometimes disturbing mystery. Writer Alan Moore -- the creator behind graphic novels such as Watchmen -- gives his English hometown of Northampton magical status, with offbeat characters and a surreal story where reality blurs into something else entirely, but one that's easy to get wrapped up in.

With a huge mop of black hair, Burke is in almost every scene and commands the screen accordingly. Siobhan Hewlett is every bit as good as the woman who gets embroiled in the mystery, and Bradley John steals every scene he's in as the hilarious and indecisive club owner, Elton Carnaby. The movie's only weak link is the bumpy crash landing ending. But it's worth it for the ride. For The Show is entirely uncompromising and, if it's your sort of thing, utterly refreshing.
