The Slumber Party
What's the Story?
In THE SLUMBER PARTY, it's the week before high school begins, and best friends Megan (Darby Camp), Anna Maria (Valentina Herrera), and Paige (Emmy Liu-Wang) are having a sleepover to celebrate Anna Maria's birthday. When Anna Maria's dad insists she include her soon-to-be stepsister things start to go downhill. When Megan decides tonight's going to be the night she'll break free of her anxieties and burst through her comfort zone, no one could predict the situation they'll be in by the next morning -- especially when the party entertainer Mesmer (Tituss Burgess) hypnotizes the girls into living their best lives and putting aside all self-consciousness.
Is It Any Good?
This lighthearted movie brings a fresh twist to the teen party genre despite being a clear copy of The Hangover. With a mix of humor and awkwardness, The Slumber Party follows the adventures of four devoted friends who wake up after undergoing a hypnotist's spell with no memory of the previous night's events. As they slowly piece together the hilarious and chaotic moments, they must work together to fix the situations they unknowingly created. The film embraces individuality, featuring diverse family structures and highlighting the journey of self-discovery that comes with early teen years. Unlike typical makeover tropes, the characters stay true to themselves, finding acceptance and happiness along the way. While some plot elements may be over-the-top, the girls' chemistry and charming performances from side characters, including Burgess (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), add to the overall innocence of the movie. The Slumber Party is a fun and relatable watch, perfect for young viewers seeking a dose of laughter and friendship.
