The Venture Bros.: Radiant Is the Blood of the Baboon Heart
What's the Story?
In THE VENTURE BROS.: RADIANT IS THE BLOOD OF THE BABOON HEART, Hank Venture (Jim Schumann) has gone missing after he catches his brother Dean (Michael Sinterniklaas) sleeping with his girlfriend. A predawn raid led by Brock (Patrick Warburton), Dean, and Dean and Hank's father Rusty (James Urbaniak) fails to find anything but Hank's discarded smartphone. While Hank is on a solo quest to find his mother, Rusty is trying to launch the newest Venture Industries product, the Guild of the Calamitous Intent must face off against a mysterious minor villain known as Brick Frog, and another villain named Debbie appears on the scene. Meanwhile, Dean travels to Chicago to enlist the help of Jefferson (Charles Parnell) in his search for Hank while Dr. Venture's latest invention causes the Ven-Tech tower to liftoff into outer space.
Is It Any Good?
This is a fitting conclusion to The Venture Bros. that's best for fans who love it the most. The Venture Bros.: Radiant is the Blood of the Baboon Heart isn't for newbies to the show since the many characters in this impressive ensemble cast can feel overwhelming without context. The myriad stories and story threads make anime and contemporary superhero metaverse stories seem straightforward by comparison, and there's really no effort to get anyone who hasn't been watching these last two decades caught up.
Not that it isn't necessarily enjoyable on its own terms, but it's like trying to watch El Camino without having any familiarity with what happened in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. There are some nods to pop culture icons and crackpot conspiracies, and the requisite Adult Swim NSFW humor. Long-time fans will be pleased.
