What's the Story?

When journalist Laura Blacklock (Keira Knightley) is invited onboard a luxury yacht in THE WOMAN IN CABIN 10, it seems a good opportunity to relax while covering the philanthropic work of its owners. But when Laura is convinced she sees a passenger being thrown overboard, she finds that no one believes her, not least because all passengers and crew are accounted for. Or are they?

Is It Any Good?

Our review:

What starts as a solid mystery premise soon becomes increasingly far-fetched, at times unintentionally funny. The Woman in Cabin 10 takes place on a luxury yacht owned by billionaire couple Richard and Anne Bullmer (Guy Pearce and Lisa Loven Kongsli). With Anne nearing the end of her battle with leukemia, the couple are hosting wealthy friends to celebrate launching a charitable foundation in her name. But the gathering is interrupted when Knightley's journalist Laura claims she's witnessed someone thrown overboard. With everyone onboard a potential suspect, at just 92 minutes, the film struggles to develop its supporting characters as the possible murderer—something the original book it's based on was no doubt able to do. Promising characters like Paul Kaye's aging rock star and Kaya Scodelario's social media influencer appear briefly but disappear before getting meaningful development. This leaves Knightley and Pearce carrying an increasingly implausible story toward a twist that requires significant suspension of disbelief.
