What's the Story?

When an American family moves to rural Norway after inheriting an old farm, their dreams of a perfect life in one of the happiest countries on Earth are derailed when they realize THERE'S SOMETHING IN THE BARN. Their encounter with an ancestral Elf (Kiran Shah) who hates strangers and change leads them to a full-on battle with mythical creatures who will do anything to get rid of anyone who dares to upset their way of life.

Is It Any Good?

Nothing says Christmas like a murderous elf trying to get rid of the all-American family that's moved into the farm where he's lived for centuries. Combining elements of horror, dark comedy, and satire, There's Something in the Barn has the potential to become a new holiday season cult classic. A marvelous ensemble of American and Norwegian actors surrenders to the film's camp style and satirical commentary, marking the differences between both cultures.

Led by Martin Starr as the goofy, well-intentioned Bill who moves his family from the US to a remote town in Norway, the film allows all of its actors to shine. Shah is fantastic as the murderous Elf with what he discovers to be a heart of gold. Watching him display the Elf's emotions from shyness to vengefulness is a treat. The cartoonish violence and the Elf's creepy qualities might be too much for kids to handle, but teenagers will most likely be thrilled by the film's constant action and sense of humor.
