This Is Me… Now: A Love Story
What's the Story?
In a series of fictional scenarios interspersed with music videos inspired by her album of the same name, THIS IS ME… NOW: A LOVE STORY, the Artist (Jennifer Lopez) wanders through affairs, weddings, breakups, and counseling sessions until she realizes she must love herself first. Her journey is watched from above by a "Zodiac council," and on earth by a group of caring friends and a therapist.
Is It Any Good?
This odd and overly self-serious music video-slash-film capitalizes on the fact that Jennifer Lopez's love life has been tabloid fodder for decades. The star is gorgeous and talented, there's no denying that, and This is Me… Now: A Love Story is easy on the eyes and ears. It's a little less easy on the brain, with its mishmash of clichés about lost love, bad love, self-love, and love addiction. Dream sequences are choreographed as musical numbers, with a final dancing-in-the-rain sequence a real highlight. Scenes starring a circle of celebrities as the heavenly "Zodiac council" -- including Jane Fonda, Sofia Vergara, Trevor Noah, Post Malone, and notably, Neil deGrasse Tyson, among others -- provides some much-needed comic relief. Too bad they don't have more important concerns than JLo's relationship drama.
Talk to Your Kids About ...

Do you think any of what happens to the "Artist" is related to Jennifer Lopez's real life? Why or why not?
Which celebrities did you recognize in the film?
Why would Lopez release this film at the same time as her new album?
