Untitled Home Invasion Romance
Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
In UNTITLED HOME INVASION ROMANCE, Kevin (Jason Biggs) is taking his estranged wife, Suzie (Meaghan Rath), away for the weekend to try to rekindle their relationship. Not wanting to leave anything to chance, he's orchestrated a fake burglary with acting class buddy Ernie (Arturo Castro) so he can play the hero for Suzie. But nothing goes as planned. Ernie and Kevin are spotted together on more than one occasion, Suzie's local childhood friend Heather (Anna Konkle) turns out to now be police captain, and Kevin isn't on site when Ernie enters the house, leading Suzie to take matters into her own hands. From there, events only spiral further out of control.
Is It Any Good?
Director-actor Biggs wanted people to both laugh and squirm with this directorial debut, and he's achieved exactly that with a quirky, amusing, and also disconcerting movie. The various plot twists of Untitled Home Invasion Romance, the comedically talented cast (Konkle and Min deserved more screen time), and the surprisingly gruesome violence make sure of it. Biggs is also great at playing the dupe, so his character's hilarious alter ego here of erectile-dysfunction mascot "Mr. Softie" fits just right and helps explain his need to prove his toughness. Meanwhile, Rath's Suzie seems to be making a feminist statement gone awry.
