What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Viking Wolf is a 2023 horror movie in which a werewolf begins attacking the citizens of a small Norwegian town. Expect graphic violence, including scenes of corpses in the woods and in a morgue that are clawed, bitten, and bloody. A headless corpse is found in the woods. Close-up of a rotting face/skull in a cave. A wood splinter impales a man's arm. A Search and Rescue dog is sliced in half by the wolf -- the dog's blood is on the faces of those around it. Teen boys verbally bully a teen girl. Strong language, including "f--k." Teens drink beer on the beach. Cigarette smoking.

What's the Story?
In VIKING WOLF, Thale (Elli Rhiannon Muller Osborne) has just moved to a small Norwegian town with her family. While trying to fit in and meet other teens, Thale witnesses one of the teens getting dragged into the woods by a mysterious force. When the body is later discovered, ravaged with bite and claw marks, it's up Thale's mother, Liv (Liv Mjones), a newly hired police officer, to lead the investigation. Soon, what seems impossible now seems entirely possible: The victim was killed by a werewolf. Now Liv and the other officers must try to stop the werewolf, while Thale begins to notice that she's going through some changes after she was bitten by the werewolf during the attack that took the teen's life.
Is It Any Good?
This is an engaging yet somewhat disappointing Norwegian werewolf movie. Viking Wolf connects a "hound of hell" Norse legend and advances it 1000 years to a small town in Norway, where unlucky teens who just want to hang out on the beach and/or the woods and drink beer are traumatized by a werewolf who kills one of them and injures another. It can be quite graphic at times and mostly sticks to a well-worn story.
The acting, however, is quite good. The story moves along at a brisk pace, but the wolf itself looks like not-the-best CGI. The plot twist that takes us into Act III, while not really a twist, has some strong moments. Overall, though, while it's a Norwegian twist on the werewolf tale, it doesn't really add anything new to the story.
