What's the Story?

WARRIOR KING tells the story of Chori (voiced by Katie Leigh as a child and Brandon Hunt when he's older), who's destined for greatness. He's born of divine lineage, exiled by his people, and endures trials and challenges in a world full of evil demons and monsters. Ultimately, Chori matures into a hero who saves his people and fulfills his destiny to become a great king. The story is based on a Chinese legend inspired by the Tibetan epic poem of King Gesar. The voice cast also includes Richard Epcar as the High Priest.

Fans of anime and the Chinese animation genre will appreciate the movie's stunning character visuals and creative CGI enhancements. But the fast-paced, choppy storytelling in Warrior King may be confusing for those not already familiar with the legend of King Gesar, his famous origin story of divine birth to exile to king, and Buddhism. There are positive messages about being brave, persevering through difficult times, and having hope to fulfill your destiny for greatness. But Chori's hero's journey is also predictable and long, the characters are often whiny and over dramatic, and the constant action and violence may be tiresome for parents and critical viewers alike.
