Why Did I Get Married Again?
Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
A group of middle-aged friends, mostly coupled off, are about to grow even closer when two of their grown children get married to each other in WHY DID I GET MARRIED AGAIN? But even before they make the trip to Italy for the destination wedding, tempers flare. Past and present infidelities and abuse come to the surface. Relationships are tested and strengthened.
Is It Any Good?
Tyler Perry's films are often message-heavy, but the ensemble cast here helps spread the script's clunkier aspects across multiple characters. Once you get past a strange opening scene where actors Tasha Smith and Michael Jai White are tasked with introducing all of the other characters and their relationships, Why Did I Get Married Again? will speak to many viewers with its messages about aging, relationships, therapy, and communication. The exposition doesn't even help that much, and it's still easy to get confused in the first act about who's who and how they're all related. The actors are mostly likable, despite some occasional unnecessarily rude or awkward behavior, with the older female cast really standing out.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about how male-female relations are portrayed in Why Did I Get Married Again? Did you feel that the film prioritized one gender's perspective or experience over the other's? How so, or why not?
Why do the older characters hide their problems from their children? Do you think this is healthy? Why, or why not?
Did you find it complicated to keep track of the characters and their relationships to each other? What other films have you watched with ensemble casts like this one?
