What's the Story?

WONDERFUL WETLANDS begins by stating that water is the key ingredient to life, and thereby paving the way for the rest of the documentary concerning the various animals and plants that gather around wetlands to find food and live out their lives. Throughout the rest of its fifty minute runtime, it follows the daily habits of and interacts between a wide cast of characters, including dragonflies, storks, frogs, and more. The framework of the story is usual for many nature documentaries in that it jumps from locale to locale and species to species with relative ease and intuition.

Wonderful Wetlands is another prime addition to the catalog of Curiositystream nature documentaries in that it provides both an intellectually engaging and aesthetically pleasing viewing experience. Plunging above and below the water's surface, the documentary is comprehensive and impressive. While it might otherwise be boring for some viewers who aren't already interested in the subject matter, Wonderful Wetlands features such a wide array of species and events that it maintains an exciting pace even despite the lack of an overarching plot.

Talk to Your Kids About ...

  • Families can talk about how many of these lungfish, jaguars, eagles, dragonflies, crickets, storks, and many more species can look so different from humans yet still worry about some of the same problems (getting enough food, conserving energy, etc.). What are some things that you do throughout the day that these other animals do as well?

  • Why are there so many nature documentaries like this one? What do we gain by making and watching nature documentaries?

  • How is watching nature documentaries about all these species better and/or worse in your opinion than going to the zoo to observe them in real time?
