What's the Story?

In WOODY WOODPECKER GOES TO CAMP, Woody (voiced by Eric Bauza) gets kicked out of his forest home after causing too much trouble—again. He's told he can't come back until he learns teamwork. Lucky for him, there's a camp right across the street where teamwork is taught. He's told by camper Maggie (Chloe de los Santos) that if he can stick with the program without causing problems, he'll get a badge. And that will get him back to his home. The STEM-oriented camp kids, overseen by Angie (Mary-Louise Parker), are preparing to go up against the neighboring military-style camp, led by Angie's cousin Zane (Josh Lawson) and whose participants are bullies, in a game-day competition. Meanwhile, Angie's camp is at risk of getting shut down, and baddie Buzzard (voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson) is looking to close both camps to find a legendary cache of gold buried on their land. Buzzard uses Woody's impulsiveness against him. Will Woody discover the value of teamwork?

Is It Any Good?

Our review:

The noisy, mischievous character of Woody Woodpecker isn't for everyone, but this live-action and animated film offers simple messages in a heartfelt package that will likely find a young audience. Parents might want to leave the room when the raucous and fast-paced action gets going in Woody Woodpecker Goes to Camp. Star Parker seems a little lost, and the violence (barbecuing someone's face, freezing a character, helicopter crash, etc.) and bullying between campers feels unnecessarily harsh at times. But, the campers are sweet and Woody learns his lesson. Just be prepared for puns and potty humor.
