You'll Never Find Me
Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
In YOU'LL NEVER FIND ME, a lonely and troubled older man (Brendan Rock) lives alone in a mobile home. One late and stormy night he's visited by a barefooted young woman (Jordan Cowan) who asks for a ride into town. She claims she came from the beach, but it's unclear how she made it into the man's neighborhood. The man doesn't have a phone, so they have to wait out the storm until he can walk her to the park's payphone so she can call for a ride.
Is It Any Good?
This horror-thriller is surprisingly good. While it doesn't completely stick its landing, You'll Never Find Me still thrills with its tight writing, strong performances, and claustrophobic execution. There are only two characters, and the entire setting is one man's small mobile home, but the film doesn't suffer from these limitations. Sometimes, as it's occasionally said, limitation breeds creativity, and in this case, this principle holds true to produce a strong and captivating thrill ride. Most audiences won't be able to completely figure out what's going on until the final act. And strong kudos go to this movie for doing what it does with no special CGI wizardry and no large budget.
The dialogue is just cryptic and suggestive enough that it can often imply multiple implications, yet never really revealing what each character's true motives are. Further, there always may or may not be the possibility of supernatural things happening or one or both of the characters simply not seeing things correctly. Little revelations are slowly introduced throughout, even though some of them turn out to be red herrings. And even though the ending won't completely satisfy everyone, it's a marvel and refreshing for a film to show what good writing, clever camera work, and strong performances can do.
