What's It About?
FOREVER AGO is a fun and engaging podcast for kids and families that explains the origin and history of kid-friendly topics. Young listeners can learn about the history of things they may wonder about but don't necessarily learn about in school, like how video games got their start, where the idea for skateboards came from, and who designed the first emoji. Each episode features the show's host, Joy Dolo, and several guest experts as they dive deep into these fun topics. Frequently, kids are asked to join the show to be interviewed for their thoughts on that episode's topic, and some of them are experts themselves (in the episode about the history of emojis, a teenager who created their own viral emoji is interviewed). Every episode takes place in a fictional environment and weaves the history of that episode's subject into the story, making it fun and engaging for younger kids. Episodes are approximately 30 minutes long and cover several different topics throughout.
Is It Any Good?
There's something for everyone here in this fun and quirky podcast. Whether your child is an eager learner or a hesitant listener, Forever Ago is sure to grab their attention and make them forget they're learning, while also helping them understand more of the world around them. For parents, this is a great screen-free option to keep kids entertained while also teaching them history they're not likely to learn in school. For kids, this is a goofy, story-telling pod that happens to throw some facts and knowledge in along the way.
The structure of each episode is what's truly compelling. Joy Dolo is frequently accompanied by a kid co-host, and they begin in a fictional land and slowly make their way toward incorporating the history of the items they come across. The scenic audio environment created in each episode is engaging, descriptive, and sure to spark listeners' imagination. And the dialogue is fun, silly, and lighthearted. Although older kids may find Forever Ago to be a little too kid-focused, they're sure to pick up some fun facts from the show and share them with their friends. This is an awesome pod to learn from, lose yourself in, and help you reframe how you think about the world around you.
