What's the Story?

7TH TIME LOOP is about Rishe (voiced by Ikumi Hasegawa), the daughter of a duke, who's stuck reliving the same five years of her life. After her engagement to a prince is called off, she flees the castle to pursue new jobs in new lands. But each time she dies five years later as part of a war. In her seventh life, her escape is interrupted by a marriage proposal from the very prince who started the war and murdered her in her sixth life.

Love takes work, but hope and kindness breed change in this fun, character-driven romance anime. 7th Time Loop features an admirable female lead who's as sweet and earnest as she is bold and clever. Rishe is a great role model for anyone who likes the heart-skipping tension of a classic rom-com but wants the heroine to be strong and in charge.

The political plot pieces can sometimes feel a bit shallow. Tension makes it seem like there are serious dangers, but the truth behind some mysteries can undermine the stakes and feel disappointing. That said, the characters' individual growth is what really makes the show worth watching.

Talk to Your Kids About ...

  • Families can talk about Rishe deciding for herself (and encouraging others) to choose her own happiness in life. How can you find your own happy future? How can you deal with pressure from other people to do what they want?

  • Talk about processing trauma. How do characters' pasts affect them? What do they do to process those experiences and begin to change?

  • Talk about the characters' romance. Why do Rishe and Prince Arnold start to fall in love with each other? How does their relationship show healthy boundaries, communication, and mutual respect?
