This charming hour-long special is a delightful introduction to jazz for young viewers. Acoustic Rooster and His Barnyard Band teaches kids basic tenets of the musical genre, like listening, improvisation, and call-and-response. These lessons are, of course, useful for life outside of music, and the special does an excellent job integrating them. The snappy dialogue and fun songs have lots of nods to classic jazz and its founding musicians—families with budding performers should feel great putting this one on repeat.
