Act Your Age
What's the Story?
ACT YOUR AGE is a situation comedy about three 50-something women facing life's challenges together. Bernadette (Kym Whitley) is a successful real estate developer in the Washington D.C. metro area who decides to invite her best friends Angela (Yvette Nicole Brown) and Keisha (Tisha Campbell) to live with her after they show up for a brief, but memorable, visit. The strait-laced Angela and the free-spirited Keisha have to learn to deal with each other, and Bernadette isn't used to sharing her space. It's not always easy being roommates, but they know that they can lean on each other as they deal with their grown children, annoying neighbors, search for love, and everything else that comes their way at this stage in their lives.
Is It Any Good?
There are lots of zany plot lines and physical comedy in this fun 90s-style sitcom, which features three strong, educated, and unmarried Black women unapologetically being true to themselves as older adults. The chemistry between them is believable, and despite some silly over-the-top moments, you can't help but laugh out loud at some of their exchanges. However, some of Act Your Age's secondary storylines, especially those involving Bernadette's son Jacob (Nathan Anderson) and Angela's daughter Olivia (Mariah Robinson) don't work as well, especially since they lack the humor or energy the three main characters bring to the show. But if you can get past this, what you will find is a series that celebrates the fact that women don't have to try to be younger in order to be seen, heard, or to live life to the fullest.
