Aitana: Metamorphosis
Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
AITANA: METAMORPHOSIS is a reality serires that chronicles the professional and personal life of Spanish pop singer and actress, Aitana. In 2017, 18-year-old Barçelona resident Aitana Ocaña Morales competed in a reboot of the Spanish talent competition, Operación Triunfo. She didn't win, but she gained national exposure thanks to the show and a hit single she recorded with contestant Anna Guerra during the contest, and soon became a Latin Grammy nominated international pop star sensation. Seven years later Aitana is looking back at how her career started while reflecting on how she's grown professionally as a streaming artist and performer, and at her personal growth. Viewers get to watch her write songs, work in Los Angeles, and traveling while on tour in México while coping with the non-stop tabloid media. They also get to watch her interact with friends and family and navigate romance. It's not an easy balance to maintain, but Aitana is constantly working at it in order to live the life she wants.
Is It Any Good?
The rather slow moving autobiographical docuseries follows Aitana as she navigates her professional and personal life. There's some highlights from her childhood, but the overall narrative begins place eight months before Aitana was scheduled to perform her ‘Alpha' tour in Madrid's Santiago Bernabéu stadium (which is home to the Real Madrid football club), and which was unexpectedly canceled until June 2025. Throughout this time the singer offers lots of thoughts about how she's changed from being an average teenager to a woman working in a high-pressure industry. She talks about what her future career goals are going forward, like matching Taylor Swift's ability to sell out venues, and reveals her concerns about her voice and the stress the constant performing is causing on her vocal cords. There's some concert footage featured, which helps break up these interviews, and the on-going conversations with her family and friends. None of this is surprising, given that Aitana: Metamorphosis is a pretty much a promotional vehicle for the artist, but chances are you'll need to be a hardcore Aitana fan to enjoy it.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about how singers break into the industry. Does the ability for singers to stream their music make it a little easier to become well known? To make money?
In Aitana: Metamorphosis, Aitana talks about the challenges brought on by tabloid journalists. How does she negotiate needing the press to promote her work and their desire to talk and write about her private life?
