What's the Story?

ALL AMERICAN: HOMECOMING is a sports drama following life at Bringston University; a fictional HBCU in Atlanta, Georgia. It follows Simone Hicks (Geffri Maya) from All American, whose tennis journey (loosely inspired by Serena Williams) brings her to Bringston for her freshman year. Money trouble, tennis nemesis Thea (Camille Hyde), and classes quickly pile onto Simone's overfilled plate. Thankfully, she's got Resident Assistant Keisha (Netta Walker), Nate (Rhoyle Ivy King), and her Aunt Amara (Kelly Jenrette) to back her up. Alternatively, Damon Sims (Peyton Alex Smith) struggles against the pressures of saving Brington's baseball team (including his friend JR (Sylvester Powell)) while butting heads with Coach Marcus (Cory Hardrict). As situations and shenanigans threaten to consume Bringston, they navigate through this chaos as a community.

Is It Any Good?

Our review:
Parents say ( 1 ):
Kids say ( 3 ):

This series shines when sports take a backseat, and the characters, their personalities, and their narratives have a chance to be explored. All American: Homecoming uses sports as a segue to play through teen drama. Additionally, the location being an HBCU is refreshing, and it attempts to be part of the story, not just a backdrop.

That being said, this teen drama is pretty standard. Dealing with unrequited crushes, flirting, sex, and partying, all before tennis practice at 9 AM. There's a notable mysterious aspect that adds to the melodrama of it all, though sometimes it can get a little lost with how fast the plot moves past the characters.
