What's the Story?

AMERICA'S CULINARY CUP is a cooking contest that pits some of the world's most elite chefs against each other for a chance to win one million dollars. Hosted and created by Padma Lakshmi, each of the featured 16 chefs must outcook each other in head-to-head competitions. After an initial elimination, each episode features the remaining chefs competing while following the "10 commandments of cooking." They have to demonstrate a mastery of meat, vegetables, and desserts, and prepare foods that show off their expertise in world cuisines, creating new and innovative dishes and flavors, sustainability, consistency, and culinary science and technology. Between rounds there's lots of strategizing as the chefs try to protect themselves from elimination. Judging the chefs' plates after each round are Lakshmi and renown culinary masters and innovators Michael Cimarusti and Wylie Dufresne. At the end of the competition, the last chef standing gets a trophy and the cash.

Created by Padma Lakshmi, the sleek and flavor-filled food competition offers viewers a chance to see some of the top chefs in the U.S. show off their master culinary skills to win a lot of dough. All the contestants are recipients of high accolades for their cooking, ranging from James Beard nominations to Michelin stars. A few, like two-time Top Chef winner Buddha Lo and Food Network Star finalist Russell Jackson also bring their food TV competition experience to the table. Their combined talents and reputations raise the stakes of the game, which sometimes leads to unsporting comments being made during individual interviews. Meanwhile, the challenges are fast-moving, which doesn't allow for a lot of discussion about ingredients, dishes, or food preparation styles and preferences. Nonetheless, foodies will appreciate it, and viewers who like food challenges will find that tuning in to America's Culinary Cup is both entertaining and mouthwatering.
