What's the Story?
Hosted by Alfonso Ribeiro, AMERICA'S FUNNIEST HOME VIDEOS: ANIMAL EDITION (aka AFV: Animal Edition) features amusing, heartwarming, and surprising animal-themed home videos. The spin-off of America's Funniest Home Videos gives viewers the chance to see all sorts of creatures behaving in unexpected ways. Videos also feature humans engaging with, and reacting to, the animals they are recording. Fun animal facts, fan emails, and audience quizzes are part of the fun. At the end of each episode, the most popular video wins $1000.
Is It Any Good?
Each episode of the lighthearted but predictable AFV spin-off offers lots of streaming, Instagram, and Facebook videos featuring a wide variety of domestic pets and wild animals behaving, well, like animals. The videos are organized thematically into a segments like "What Is That Dog Barking at Now?" and "Top Ten Times You Were Glad That Glass Was There" to give them some context, and to generate some humor. Added to the fray are people who feed, play with, or talk to the creatures, and how they react to their often unpredictable behavior. Animal fans will love it, but some may be sensitive to scenes of animals snapping at, biting, or attacking, despite the fact that it's normal animal behavior. Nonetheless, America's Funniest Home Videos: Animal Edition offers lots of animal-themed entertainment.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about the different ways animals interact with humans. What causes certain animals to behave aggressively towards people? What are some of the things we should be aware of when handling our pets, or when observing animals in the wild?
Animal videos are the most popular videos in the AFV franchise. Why? Is it because the animals are cute? Because people's reactions are funny? Or is it something else?
