What's the Story?

ARIFURETA: FROM COMMONPLACE TO WORLD'S STRONGEST follows the story of Hajime Nagumo (voiced by Matt Shipman), an average Japanese high school student who gets summoned to a fantasy world along with his classmates. Everyone but Hajime is gifted with powerful combat abilities and tasked with saving this new fantasy world. While out on a mission, Hajime risks his life to protect his friends, which sends him tumbling down a dungeon where he is assumed deceased and left for dead. Hajime awakens deep underground where he must fight dangerous monsters to reach the surface again. As he fights for survival, Hajime gains new combat abilities. With a newfound resolve from his discovery, he decides to become even stronger and fights to make his way back to his home world.

This adventure anime is an action-packed romp, but that's about all it is. Arifureta: From Commonplace to World's Strongest jumps right into the action from the start and never really finds the time to explain what's going on or why viewers should care. The action sequences can be fun to watch and the way the characters find themselves getting stronger is a little interesting. But ultimately, Arifureta a rather generic series filled with predictable tropes and story beats that have been done many times over.
