Baki-Dou: The Invincible Samurai
Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
BAKI-DOU: THE INVINCIBLE SAMURAI is set in a world of martial arts competitors. It's a continuation in the Baki series, and mostly focuses on Baki Hanma (voiced by Troy Baker), an underground, up-and-coming fighter. He and other elite fighters compete in brutally violent martial arts matches when an old legend pops up: Miyamoto Musashi (voiced by SungWon Cho). Musashi was cloned by scientists and sent out to be the greatest, unstoppable fighter. His return and strength in matches causes the fighters to become tougher, stronger, and question their beliefs about honor and fairness in the ring.
Is It Any Good?
This show was decent, but not outstanding; it leans heavily on being graphic and violent, and some parts of the show are unsettling or uncomfortable. The Baki series is defined by that violence, though, so Baki-Dou: The Invincible Samurai is consistent in its tone. The concept of bringing back the legendary samurai Musashi into a modern world is interesting, but the show doesn't go as deep into that idea as it could. The show was still entertaining and even had hints of humor; fans of over-the-top martial arts animes may enjoy this one.
