The parents' guide to what's in this TV show.

Educational Value

In each story, Bali learns something new, whether it's the importance of following directions or the value of hard work.

Positive Messages

Each story has a prominent message that reinforces self-confidence and perseverance. In one, Bali is inspired to continue practicing soccer even though he's discouraged by how he plays now, for instance. His frustrations reflect those that preschoolers will understand, such as not wanting to share or feeling inferior to a friend. Strong messages about family bonds. Both of Bali's parents work, and they share duties around the house and in childcare.

Positive Role Models & Representations

Bali is open-minded and eager to learn from those who know more than he does. He finds small ways to work toward his goals each day. His parents are his biggest supporters, and he's an excellent big brother to his young sister.

Violence & Scariness

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Bali is a preschool series inspired by a French book series. Kids will enjoy seeing Bali cope with issues they likely know well, from overcoming fear to learning to persevere at something difficult. Bali has many role models, including his parents and a variety of people who appear in his daydreams, who help keep him on the right track. What's so impressive about Bali is that he's always eager to listen to what they have to say and to learn from their experiences. This gentle series has positive messages, wonderful stories, and endearing characters, making it a great choice for watching with your preschooler.

What's the story?

BALI centers on the experiences of a young puppy named Bali, who lives with his parents and little sister, Lea, in a big city. Bali's a typical preschooler with big dreams and his own ideas about how things should work, but when he's in a jam, he usually finds inspiration in a daydream, where he meets someone who helps him see the light. When he gets back to real life, he applies what he's learned, fixes the problem, and emerges with a more positive attitude.

Is it any good?

Bali's zest for life and willingness to learn new things from would-be mentors make him an excellent role model for preschoolers. Even when he's frustrated about his own situation, he never lets that interfere with an opportunity to learn. As a result, he learns valuable lessons, accumulates knowledge, and, more importantly, builds strong self-esteem.

Surrounding Bali is a vital support system that includes affectionate parents, an adoring sister, faithful friends, and a kindly grandmother, all of whom play a role in helping shape Bali's appealing personality. Life isn't perfect, even for this darling pup, but his experiences remind kids that even when the matter at hand seems bleak, there's always a way to set things right and keep moving forward.

Talk to your kids about ...

  • Families can talk about how Bali overcomes a struggle in each story. Can your kids relate to all of them? To whom would they turn for help in a similar situation?

  • Why is it important to have good role models? Does being a good role model mean you're always perfect? Kids: In what situations are you a role model? What responsibilities go along with that?

  • Kids: How receptive are you to other people's advice or expertise? Does learning something new ever frustrate you? What are the rewards of sticking with a goal through the tough times?

  • How do the characters in Bali demonstrate perseverance? Why is this an important character strength?
