BattleBots Pro League
Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
BATTLEBOTS PRO LEAGUE is an elite heavyweight robot tournament featuring twenty-four of the world's most destructive machines and their builders giving it their all in robot combat. Each team's "bot" is placed into one of six groups and must battle against each of the other bots in their group, and a panel of judges headed up by Pete Abrahamson (known as "Bot Whisperer") determines the victors. Every win improves their rankings, and as the competition moves forward, those ranked the highest advance to knockout rounds. The team with the last bot standing is crowned the new Pro League World Champion. Ring announcer Faruq Tauheed and emcees Steve Judkins and Patrick Bean preside over the live-event in Las Vegas, while play-by-play announcer Chris Rose and color commentator Kenny Florian offer their thoughts throughout each episode. There's also lots of behind-the-scenes content, pit reports, and other related content.
Is It Any Good?
This high-energy installment of the BattleBots franchise, which streams on YouTube, features robots built by teams all over the world that are designed to fight and reduce opponents to a pile of scrap. Competing in Battlebots Pro League are some well known bots like "Huge" and "Witch Doctor," along with new challengers from around the world. This includes the Canadian "Orbitron," the world's first fully AI-controlled heavyweight combat robot. The tournament's round robin format allows teams to keep competing in a full set of matches rather than being sent home after a single loss, which allows viewers to see more battles, and to become more familiar with each bot and its builders. Meanwhile, thanks to conversations with the different team builders, we also get to hear a little more about each team's game strategies and their thoughts about what happened during each match. Overall, it shows how people use their interest in STEM to build interesting technology, and have a lot of fun while doing it.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about the role AI plays in robotics. Did you know that AI is used to help Battlebot builders test and improve their machines before they are sent into battle? How?
Do you think we'll see more AI-controlled robots in BattleBots Pro League in the future? Is this a good or a bad thing?
