A Lot or a Little?
The parents' guide to what's in this TV show.
What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Becoming is a positive documentary series that tells the stories of how celebrity athletes and entertainers persevered and rose to the top of their professions. In telling their stories, some of the celebrities show moderate sadness when talking about things like a loved one dying or being involved in a serious accident. There are also mentions of romantic love, and the lead character in one episode finds out she's expecting a baby. While there isn't any overt product placement, some brands are mentioned by name, and some athletic uniforms have visible logos.

What's the Story?
In BECOMING, a documentary series executive produced by LeBron James, star athletes and entertainers tell the stories of how they became who they are today. Season One includes profiles of WNBA star Candace Parker, actor Caleb McLaughlin, dancer Julianne Hough, and more. Each episode starts from the very beginning, accompanying the celebrity back to their hometown and talking to their family, teachers, and coaches. There's lots of behind-the-scenes archival footage and photos, and interviews with people who helped the star succeed. The athletes and celebs talk about the setbacks they overcame on their way to success, and share stories of how they achieved their dreams.
Is It Any Good?
Kids who are into sports, music, or acting will like learning about celebrities who did the impossible and rose to the top of their professions. The stories in Becoming are inspiring and show how the stars' tremendous amounts of perseverance and grit are the secrets to their success. The stars are pretty open and honest in their interviews, and so they also do a great job of showcasing the not-so-fun parts of being an elite athlete or entertainer. While the feel-good series is appropriate for young kids, many of the celebrities featured on the show aren't well known by young kids and will likely appeal more to their parents.
