Boiling Point
What's the Story?
Head chef Carly (Vinette Robinson) is having to deal with all the drama that comes from opening a new high-end restaurant in BOILING POINT. From her staff's personal issues, to disgruntled customers, to ensuring there is enough money to keep the business afloat, Carly has her work cut out if she's to make a success of Point North.
Is It Any Good?
This British TV drama picks up six months after the dramatic ending to the 2021 film of the same name. Boiling Point reunites much of the cast from the original, along with some new faces and a new restaurant, Point North. While the venue may have changed, the series has lost none of its high-octane energy in the kitchen, nor the stress and tension that oozes out of every order, leaving audiences feeling anxious … and hungry. What has been lost from the original film is shooting the action in one continuous take. But what this new approach allows is for the show to explore the characters' lives outside of the restaurant. Whether it's kitchen porter Jake's struggles to provide for his younger sister, waitress Robyn's Crohn's disease, or pastry chef Jamie's self-harming, the show tries to make room to touch on all these different experiences. Some of these threads work better than others. But the show does a great job of showing the different people who make up a team in a high-end restaurant. Comparisons to The Bear are inevitable and both are worth feasting on. Just perhaps don't watch them on an empty stomach.
