What's the Story?

CANDIS CAYNE'S SECRET GARDEN is a semi-scripted reality series about transgender actress and fashion icon Candis Cayne's special outdoor space. Behind Cayne's house is a beautiful garden where she enjoys working with plants, relaxing, and entertaining. But it also boasts a group of magical friends, including the tiny fairy Poppy Seeds (Jean Gilipin), the mischievous Succulent (Gulet Isse), and the merman Mustafa (Derek Ocampo). Meanwhile, Mr. Hammer (Michael Joseph Nelson) is always on hand to help her with DIY projects. When she's not in the garden, Cayne visits her human friends, including celebs like Bruce Vilanch and Rain Valdez, and spruces up their outdoor spaces. She also shows audiences how to make spectacular cocktails that she serves at her "Flower Hour" parties.

The lighthearted garden-themed series combines house and garden DIY with campy humor to create some plant-themed fun. Candis Cayne reveals her passion for gardening by showing folks how to do things like arrange plants and transform lackluster backyard spaces into peaceful oases. Each episode is also filled with lots of hammy moments, during which time the host and her friends (magical or otherwise) often engage in innuendo-filled banter. This is accompanied by overextended, slow-motion scenes of Mr. Hammer being ogled, and some oddly edited outfit-changing and beverage-making segments. It isn't the most polished of shows, but what makes Candis Cayne's Secret Garden worth the watch are the overarching themes of friendship, kindness, and acceptance.
