What's the Story?
CELTICS CITY is a documentary series about the history of the Boston Celtics from its start in 1948 until the 2024 NBA championship. From challenging the racial barriers during the Civil Rights era to becoming the record holder for winning eighteen NBA championships, the series chronicles the franchise's highs and lows during the past 79 seasons. Using a combination of contemporary interviews and archive footage, along with scenes of game plays going back to the 1950s, it showcases what made makes it the most successful franchise in NBA history.
Is It Any Good?
This nine-part documentary series offers a detailed look at the history of the Celtics, which holds the record for winning the most championships in NBA history. Celtics City's contemporary players like Jayson Tatum and legends like Larry Bird talk about what it is like to be part of the iconic team, while former players like the late Bill Russell (featured in archive footage) talk about how the Celtics challenged racial conventions, even when there were racial tensions within the franchise. What it was like being coached by Red Auerbach, Bill Russell, and Tom Heinsohn over the first 28 years of the franchise is discussed, too. Some of the Celtics' greatest rivalries are discussed with the help of former basketball players like Pat Riley and L.A. Lakers' James Worthy. The members of the franchise aren't humble about its successes, its relevance in Boston's history, and its importance in overall sports culture, which Celtics fans won't have a problem with. But there's no doubt that most basketball fans with appreciate Celtics City's well told and detailed story.
