Some of the dancers' family backstories reference things like divorce, illness, and poverty, but these difficulties are not dwelled on, and the overall series is upbeat and positive. There are occasional complaints about feeling sore, and on rare occasion someone gets mildly hurt, but there's no are injuries shown. The series challenges stereotypes about who can dance, and what dancers should look like.

What's the Story?
Hosted by Philip Lawrence, COME DANCE WITH ME features talented young dancers from across the United States teaming up with an untrained family member and dancing for a grand prize. The dancers are each paired up with a parent or loved who has been supportive as they pursue their dream. Each week the teams must learn new choreography and perform in front of a panel of judges made up of Jenna Dewan, Dexter Mayfield, and Tricia Miranda. The teams that score the highest remain in the competition. The two teams that score the lowest must compete against each other in a "show out" to determine which one of gets to stay. At the end of the competition, the winning team takes home $100K.
Is It Any Good?
The upbeat, positive competition features young standout dancers and their loved ones sharing a unique dance experience. The parents, whose professions range from social workers and engineers to the drummer for the rock band Limp Bizkit, aren't aways the most graceful, but they're inspired by their children's passion and talent, and want to do right by them. Meanwhile, while they all want to win the cash prize, they also treat the experience as a way to bond with one another. Come Dance With Me also sends a beautiful message about the fact that dancing is for everyone, regardless of gender, body type, or natural talent. Overall, it's a fun series that families can enjoy.
