Constellation
What's the Story?
Constellation begins aboard a space station in the midst of an emergency. Meanwhile, the family of astronaut Jo (Noomi Rapace) anxiously awaits her return. But when disaster strikes, it turns Jo's world upside down. She begins to question everything about space travel and her life on Earth.
Is It Any Good?
Thanks to the success of shows like Lost and West World, there's a lot of pressure on science fiction series to double as mysteries, or puzzle boxes. Constellation sets up some intriguing mysteries (what do they want from space? why are they taking those pills?), but they're not what steers the ship. Instead, Constellation concentrates on building a world. It creates suspense using the nuances of space travel while hinting that this reality just might not match our own. Then it digs into the emotional lives of its characters, especially astronaut Jo (Noomi Rapace) and her young daughter, Alice. The puzzle box aspects are fun, but they're not the main event. This is a space drama that relishes being a space drama.

When does the series veer away from realism? What mysteries does the show present? How do you think it all fits together?
How does Constellation portray Jo and her daughter's emotional lives? How does Jo's job as an astronaut affect them? How does this change over the course of the series?
