Having explored the likes of Turkey and Russia, Simon Reeve ventures closer to home for this two-part travel documentary. Cornwall with Simon Reeve finds the London-born presenter heading to the U.K.'s southernmost county. Surrounded by 80% water, Cornwall boasts some of the country's most spectacular and inviting coastlines, as well as beautiful green countryside. It's what draws millions of visitors every year. At least it did, before COVID-19. Filmed during the pandemic, at a time when things were beginning to reopen, Reeve talks to an array of local people about their everyday life. It's not just the impact of the pandemic that's discussed though. Subjects range from a lack of jobs and opportunities for young people to how human behavior is negatively impacting the local environment.

It makes for a contrasting documentary. On the one hand you have one of the most spectacularly beautiful parts of the U.K. But within that, you have under-resourced communities who are literally relying on the kindness of others to survive. Reeve remains engaging throughout -- as do the people he meets -- and it concludes with a feeling of optimism. The hope being that not only will the tourists continue to come back to Cornwall, but that by bringing awareness to some of the issues the county faces, something will be done to help.
