The parents' guide to what's in this TV show.
What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Criminal Minds: Evolution is an action/drama series about a team of criminal profilers who are trying to stop a serial killer who continually evades their grasp. The series has multiple scenes of gore and grisly depictions, including depictions murder and kidnapping. Swear words include "s--t," "f--king," "hell," and "damn" and there's some usage of pills.
What's the Story?
CRIMINAL MINDS: EVOLUTION is a continuation of the popular Criminal Minds series and brings David Rossi (Joe Mantegna) back into the fray as he connects a cold case that has obsessed him to a recent murder of a family and the kidnapping of the family's daughter.
Is It Any Good?
This series offers more of what made the original Criminal Minds such a popular series. CBS isn't usually known for its gore, so it makes sense that Criminal Minds: Evolution has been able to up the ante in its move to Paramount+. With that being the case, longtime fans of the series should be mindful that this series does not shy away from showing the extreme effects and environment of a serial killer. For some viewers, that ups the realism, but for others, it might make them squeamish.
But for those who are diehards of the series or the genre as a whole, Criminal Minds: Evolution will bring enough thrills and twists that will remind viewers of why they fell in love with the series in the first place. It also provides deeper characterization for characters like Mantegna's Rossi, who are understandably haunted by their past cases and are struggling to come to terms with the grief they feel as as result of criminals' actions.
