What's the Story?

CROOKS follows Charly (Frederick Lau) adjusting to life after a career in crime and stint in prison. Now putting his lock-picking skills to use, he runs his own locksmith business. When he's not working, he spends time with his family. But when he's summoned to break into a safe, declining is not an option. Swearing it's his last mission, Charly is nearly scot-free when he realizes he's been set up to snatch a valuable coin stolen by a rival gang, the Al-Walid brothers (Veysel Gelin, Nimo Yaghobi). After the mission goes awry, Charly and reluctant gangster Joseph (Christoph Krutzler) are on the run. Will they be able to leave the life of crime behind once and for all?

Is It Any Good?

This clever and complex series explores the life of ex-cons with a conscience. In Crooks, Frederick Lau and Christoph Krutzler play very compelling characters. The storytelling between the multiple stories and characters is a bit complicated but smooth. The violence, language, drugs, and alcohol use make this suitable for older teens.

Talk to Your Kids About ...

  • Families can talk about the values presented in Crooks. Charly has a "no killing" rule that he sticks to. Why do you think he has this rule, even while doing a dangerous job? What does that say about Charly? Can you think of any other characters that have similar occupations but strong personal rules?

  • Both Charly and Joseph have different views with their relationship to crime. How are they similar, and how do they differ? Is it possible to have a "second chance"?
