What's the Story?

In CROWN LAKE, an Irish girl is given a scholarship to the all-girls boarding school her deceased mother also attended. Upon arriving, she quickly learns that the school is a cutthroat place where girls often bully others. She soon stumbles upon a journal that may be her key to survival, but is it the help she was looking for or the catalyst for a whole new set of problems?

A teenage melodrama that would have been best left in the 1990s, in which it's pointlessly set. The writing and acting in Crown Lake, an amateur Gossip Girl with a storyline that could have been crafted by a middle schooler, leave much to be desired. The show is rife with '90s teen cliches, including a White girl with crimped pink hair obsessed with slam poetry and an oversized cell phone. It's so bad that the stereotypical mean girl scenes (led by a character named -- of course -- Tiffany) genuinely feel like an SNL skit.

  • Talk about the inappropriate relationship that is implied to be happening between a student and teacher. What would be the consequences if this was happening in real life?

  • Talk about the characters' actions. What are the takeaways and subtle themes or messages?
