What's the Story?
CUPERTINO follows Michael Price (Mike Colter) and Olivia Siffre (Rachel Keller) after they've been fired from the same tech start-up in Silicon Valley. Suspecting discrimination and wrongful termination, they team up to take the large company down. Armed with just determination, Michael's network, and the recently fired Christy Palladino (Ella Stiller), they successfully win their case. The duo sense they're not the only exploited workers struggling to find a company brave enough to fight for them, so they decide to defend the Davids from the Goliaths of Silicon Valley.
Is It Any Good?
This topical and refreshing series places the David vs. Goliath tale in Silicon Valley in the 2020s. Cupertino seems like the classic "buddy lawyer" drama but setting it in the current landscape of technology law and ethics makes it intriguing. The dynamic between Colter and Keller's characters is endearing. Despite the language, violence, suggestive themes, and product placements (which are mild), this series is OK for most teens.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about the overall tone of Cupertino. How realistic are the protagonists and their legal tactics? Does the show reflect the realities of the legal system, especially when it comes to technology in today's world? Can you think of any recent real-life court cases/legal issues that resemble the ones in the show?
What are some character traits that Michael and Olivia portray? Do the pair make good role models?
